News Item Kentville Baptist Church Seasonal Choir presented the Christmas musical 'One Small Child' - On December 15 and 16, 2007, the Kentville Baptist Church Seasonal Choir presented the Christmas musical 'One Small Child'. The musical, which involved over 50 participants, was promoted by the Seasonal Choir's publicity committee through local media, posters, and invitations, and was one of several key successful outreach initiatives for the church through the Advent season. The objective was to use the musical as a bridge to the community to creatively share the Good News of Jesus, and offer the opportunity to see how the 'One Small Child' can bring about 'many big changes' in people's lives. The musical was thoroughly enjoyed by participants and attendees alike, and the combined attendance for the two musical presentations was close to 500.

News Item Approximately 200 attend Fall Fair 2007!! - Roughly 200 members, adherents, and guests were a part of the September 2007 Fall Fair outreach at Kentville Baptist. The community was blanketed with brochures promoting the event, which gives people both inside and outside the church the chance to get a look at what KBC is all about, and what programs and activities take place. In addition to the booths that are set up, there are also building tours available, free food, and staff and volunteers are available to answer questions. The Fall Fair also kicks off the fall church year and programs.








News Item Approximately 100 Kids a part of VBS 2007!! - Roughly 100 kids registered for a fantastic week of excitement that included music, games, bible stories, snacks, missions and more! Each summer, VBS is a highlight of the church and families in the community, and this VBS did not disappoint! At the conclusion of the week, a special celebration service was held, and an excellent closing program was presented for the parents by the kids to show what they learned during the week.









News Item Kids For Christ presents 'The Rockslinger and his Greatest Hit' Spring musical, Sunday May 28, 2006 - On Sunday, May 28, Kids for Christ (junior choir) presented their spring musical entitled 'The Rockslinger and his Greatest Hit' under the capable direction of Jane, Sue and Linda.

As usual, the musical was absolutely superb, and was very well done. The large congregation in attendance at morning worship were brought to their feet with applause in appreciation for the the creative presentation of the message of David and Goliath. The kids did a great job!





News Item Kentville Baptist Youth Group attends Springforth in Moncton, NB, May 12-13, 2006 - On May 12-13, the about half of the Kentville Baptist youth group journeyed to Moncton, NB to take part in in Springforth - the annual Christian youth conference sponsored by the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches.

The youth group was graciously hosted by Uplands United Baptist Church, Salisbury Rd., Moncton, who provided the youth group with a computer lab, trampoline, and breakfast (not to mention the pillow fight in the gym).

The speaker for the Junior High track was Mike Penninga, who challenged the youth to recognize that their God-given purpose is to worship God and enjoy God forever. In addition to the large group rallies, the youth chose from the available Super Seminars on Friday night, and on Saturday morning.


News Item Kentville Baptist Celebrates 132nd Anniversary with Potluck Supper and Anniversary Memorial Hymn Sing, March 11-12, 2006 - Kentville Baptist celebrated its 132nd Anniversary in style with a great weekend of activities and festivities on March 11th and 12th. On Saturday, a workshop related to effective administration was held for various church leaders and board members. In the evening, a potluck supper was held in the C.E. Centre, which began with the cutting of the Anniversary cake by the church's Associate Pastor and his wife. Following the supper, the church hosted a tremendous Anniversary Memorial Hymn Sing and Musical Celebration. The hour and a half evening featured special musical presentations and singing from the Sanctuary Choir, the Worship team, Jeannie Fagan, Terry Webber and the Mixed Quartet, as well as lots of congregational singing. The event was a used as a fundraiser toward the ongoing renovation projects (specifically for the platform and multimedia upgrades), and raised about $6700 for the cause.

The guest speaker for the weekend was Executive Minister of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, Dr. Harry Gardner. On Sunday, Dr. Gardner shared from two Old Testament passages that encouraged the congregation to celebrate the past greatness of history and heritage, but to have a Biblically focused vision for the future, that will effectively reach out. The morning service was followed by a chowder luncheon provided by the Ladies Auxillary.



News Item Kentville Baptist Hosts Rally In the Valley, February 19, 2006 - The new multimedia and platform modifications got one of their biggest tests to date, as Kentville Baptist welcomed well over 200 youth from area youth groups (in addition to many from the church) as they hosted >Rally in the Valley Rally in the Valley (RITV) is the monthly student worship event sponsored by the Eastern Valley Association. RITV is led by a worship band, and features creative youth oriented approaches to worship, and often includes skits and dramas, testimonies, student led prayers, and relevant challenging messages from the Bible.

The Kentville youth group prepared a wonderful pasta supper beforehand for themselves and the RITV band, and the youth group also provided parking lot attendants, greeters and welcomers, and a wonderful testimony was given by Rachel, a youth group member.


News Item Christmas Seasonal Choir Musical, December 18, 2005 - The culmination of 4 months of hard work came together on December 18, as the 36-voice seasonal choir presented the Christmas musical 'Born a Saviour, Born a King'.

This SATB choral production featured new new arrangements of many traditional Christmas songs, coupled with readings that showed how Jesus Christ fulfilled prophecy in His birth as both Saviour and King. Two presentations of the musical were made, with more than 300 people were in attendance for the Sunday morning worship, as the church celebrated together.






News Item 'Kids for Christ' Choir Musical, December 11, 2005 - Our Junior choir, Kids For Christ, under the direction of Jane Murphy, Sue Cox and Linda Brehaut, blew everyone away again as they presented their Christmas musical 'Shine Jesus Shine' on Sunday morning, December 11, 2005.

This wonderful Christmas musical is a reminder that God has created each of us to be totally unique, and that He wants us to be servants. Come and hear our children’s choir as they lead us in celebration of the birth of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. Two presentations of the musical were made, with a full house in attendance for the Sunday morning worship, and a second presentation was made to the Adventure Club in after Christmas in January.




News Item Renovation Projects Begin, November, 2005 - at the October business meeting, the church voted to move forward in faith on a number of building upgrades and modifications recommended after several years study by the Worship Facilities Team. The projects presented will include five areas, and will be implemented in stages over the next number of months.

The five areas include: Sanctuary renovations (including platform remodelling, and the installation of multi-media sound and video systems. The platform reconstruction will allow adequate space for the Worship Team in weekly worship, and space for seasonal presentations by the churches various choirs, etc.); the installation of an elevator between the main level and the CE Centre; moving of the library and creation of a revamped coffee and fellowship area; office relocation; main street entrance foyer renovation. The total cost of these projects is expected to be in the vicinity of $160,000, of which a portion will be borrowed from the Baptist Foundation - a portion which will also help to fund the installation of two new boilers.



News Item Challenge, October 28 - 29, 2005, New Minas, NS - Almost 500 youth (including the Kentville Baptist youth group) converged on New Minas Baptist Church for an amazing weekend youth retreat! The weekend music was provided by the excellent worship band, 'The Penny Merchants', and we all experienced challenging messages from the Bible that encouraged our youth and leaders to "move beyond the finger painting, and get on to the grand work of art" (a paraphrase from Hebrews 6:1).

The weekend also an outdoor ball hockey tournament (which featured a number of 'notable injuries' - right Kim?), motorized scavenger hunt, variety show/arts fest, as well as great food, seminars, and lots of fun.



News Item Married Couples Retreat, October 21 - 23, 2005, Bridgewater, NS - 16 married couples gathered for the third consecutive year for the church's annual married couples reatreat, held at the Fairview Inn in Bridgewater, NS. Pastor John and Dr. Catherine McNally, the keynote speakers for the weekend (who made an appearance as "Dr. C." & "Rev. J"), led in a number of excellent sessions in the theme for the weekend related to the different usages of 'love' in the Bible - and how these truths can impact and revolutionize marriages and relationships.

In addition to the workshops, there were also lots of great games and prizes (led by Troy & Sandy), engaging times of worship (led by participants of the worship team at the retreat), free time to spend with your husband or wife, and an evening of fun and entertainment around the campfire. The organizing committee did a wonderful job, and we all can't wait until next year!





News Item Induction Service, Sunday, October 2, 2005 - An induction service was held for the Kentville Baptist Church's new Associate Pastor for Youth and Music. Service participants included: Rev. Lewis How, Rev. John McNally (senior pastor and service moderator), Rev. Danny Compton (guest speaker for the evening), and Owen Stephens (organ). Special music was given by the Sanctuary choir, and the quartet 'New Song', from Middleton Baptist Church.

The service featured laying of hands from a church members representing a number of different ministries in the church, presentation of symbolic gifts by members of the youth group, and a time for greetings. A reception was held following the service with lots of goodies thanks to the Ladies Auxilliary.



News Item Vacation Bible School - for all kids aged 3 through grade 6.  Held for one week in the summer (July 8-14, 2006).   There are games and recreation, crafts, music, Bible lessons, and group activities!  This is a time where our church really connects with our community, and is a great opportunity to proclaim the Christian message of Good News of Gods love because of the salvation made available to humankind by grace through faith in Jesus Christ!  See our VBS 2005 picture below!
